Letter to JDS Customers concerning Coronavirus and JDS operations

Dear JDS Customer,

When I wrote to you a month ago to let you know about the Coronavirus and it's impact on JDS and our industry, it was mostly a supply chain issue. We were worried about our China factories being able to reopen and what their capacity would be. I am happy to tell you that the factories in China are now doing much better, and nearly all are back in production and beginning to ship product to us. There will certainly be some delays on some products, but with our large inventories and preplanning, we are mostly in good shape to take care of your needs from an inventory perspective.

Over the last month the virus has spread rapidly around the world including the US and it is now having major impacts both in the business world and in our personal lives. The biggest issue for us now with the Coronavirus is operations. Balancing the needs of our customers with the needs and safety of our employees and their families has become our daily focus. We are doing everything we can to keep all of our systems functioning and our warehouses open and shipping for you.

Just like you, we will be dealing with potentially sick employees, or those who need to stay home to care for someone ill, as well as those with children who have had school cancelled. We are doing many things in our headquarters office to reduce the risk and keep the virus from spreading including having some employees work remotely. We have also implemented a plan to have equipment and systems in place to operate the critical needs of the business remotely if for any reason we had to close our office for a period of time. Our warehouses are also doing what they can to keep things clean and trying to keep the virus away from our staff. No doubt we will be dealing with reduced staffing in many of our facilities on many days as well as the possibility of needing to close a facility if necessary or being told to do so in a hard hit area. We may need to ask for your flexibility if it is necessary to ship your order from another warehouse during this time.

One thing you can do to help us process your orders as efficiently as possible is to place your orders online. Many of you already do this and are comfortable with the system. If you are not, I ask you to try it so you can gain confidence in using the system. If the worst case were to happen and we had to close our headquarters processing center we would no longer be able to take calls in our call center and would move everything to our online system and encourage all orders to be placed online or through E-mail. We are putting the pieces in place now for our experienced staff to be able to work from their homes and still be able to take care of your needs as long as we are still legally allowed to operate.

We encourage everyone to take the proper precautions to keep yourself, your family and your employees safe. We are hopeful that in a short period of time we will get the Coronavirus under control so that our lives can return to more normal conditions. I am encouraged as I see the reports from China that things are beginning to return to more normal conditions as the Coronavirus subsides there.

Best Regards,
