• What is sublimation?

  Sublimation is unlike any other printing process. It is not a topical application process and there are no adhesive qualities. The sublimation ink is actually a dye that is transferred through heat and direct contact with a polymer-coated item, or an item made of polyester. The ink is then chemically bonded to the product. Like dry ice, sublimation ink turns from a solid to a gas without going through the liquid phase. Unlike other printed products, the "ink" cannot be felt so it will not scratch off. Once a product is sublmated, the image remains indefinetely and can only be removed through prolonged exposure to UV light.

   

  Can any product be sublimated?

  No, only products with a polymer coating or made of polyester will sublimate. Sublimation ink does not bond to uncoated, natural surfaces or fibers. Blended fabrics can be sublimated however the image will fade when washed because the ink does not bond with the cotton part of the fabric.

   

  How long with my ink last?

  We recommend you use sublimation ink with in six months of installing it in your printer. After that period, the colors can start to shift. Using old ink can also shorten the life span of your printer. Sublimation inks do have an expiration date so don't stock up. We reach over 82% fo the US in one day and over 99% in two days via ground shipping.   Can sublimated products be placed outdoors?

  There are a few products on the market now that will withstand UV light and even have guarantees not to fade within a certain time period. In general though, if a product does not have UV protection, it will fade within about 6 months of being placed outdoors.

   

  Can I use the same paper for all products?

  Well, yes and no. All of the paper that we carry for sublimation is multi-purpose, high-release paper and can be used on any product. We tend to use True Pix for hard substrates such as metal because it releases large areas of ink very evenly. For soft substrates such as fabric, we use TexPrint because it releases large percentages of the ink necessary for fabrics.
